  • Welcome to the NaRagstoRiches Show! I’m Jayson Narag your host. Thank you for joining me..
  • The show today is the last one…………………. in the series on “Making More Money.” Did I get you? Did you think today was going to be the last episode of the NaRagstoRiches Show? It’s not. I’m looking to make it to episode 25, then 50, then 100. I can’t imagine episode 200, but that would be nice to make it there.
  • The next show, I’ll go back to using rags to riches stories of people to inspire you to write your own rags to riches story wherever you may be in that process.
  • I’m at the very beginning of my rags to riches journey. Everyone is in different stages of this. Some haven’t gotten started yet, some are at the very beginning like me and others into it from a few years to a bunch of years. Wherever you are in your journey, I hope to give you some inspiration on this show.
  • I’ve had a lot of fun talking about how I’m planning on earning money as an entrepreneur. I absolutely love this because I’m learning so many new things everyday as an entrepreneur.
  • Sometimes I feel like my brain is overloaded, and then the overloaded feeling goes away and the information stays with me. All of a sudden, I think that everyone knows the information I just got and that’s not the case at all. A lot of people don’t know that information yet, so don’t expect them to.
  • That’s another reason I have this podcast is to talk about what I’m learning, what I’m doing and what I’m experiencing as I write my rags to riches story. The reason is those of you who are going into business in the future, my show gives you a sneak peak into the life of someone who is doing it and it’s all right here on the NaRagstoriches Show.
  • Some of you entrepreneurs listening to this show and hearing about the things I’m working through and dealing with are reminded of the things you went through when you made the decision to go into business. You’re an inspiration to me.
  • Today, I’m talking about the number 1 skill every entrepreneur must have in order to be successful.

SUCCESS QUOTE

“Starting a business is like jumping out of an airplane without a parachute. In mid air, the entrepreneur begins building a parachute and hopes it opens before hitting the ground.”

– Robert Kiyosaki

  • That really is how this thing feels. My wife and I looked at the benefits and drawbacks of quitting the job I was working to pursue this full-time and the benefits are much greater than the drawbacks.
  • My thing is I have a backup plan and working a job, so you can live your dream is not a bad thing at all. It’s when the job tells you that you can’t live your dream when you have to look for other employment. That’s what I was facing recently.

WHAT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT TODAY

  • So, what is the number 1 skill every entrepreneur must have in order to be successful?
  • There are different skills and abilities entrepreneurs need and you’ll learn a lot of them.
  • There are a bunch of blogs that put them in the order of importance according to the blogger thinks are important skills and abilities. This one I’m talking about today is one that is not only on most lists, but is at the top of those lists.
  • It is the ability to …. If you don’t have this ability, you’re not going to last long as an entrepreneur or as in business.
  • You have to be able to …
  • I’ve heard Robert Kiyosaki say this plenty of times that you have to have the ability to …
  • If you say, I don’t like to …, what you’re really saying is I don’t know how to … or I’m not good at …
  • Personal Story:
  • Years ago, I was in the mortgage industry while I was in college. It paid a decent amount and it paid all my college bills. I got laid off because the mortgage industry is such a roller coaster industry.
  • I got a job at a lawn care company. I really did not like it.
  • The truth was I was not good at it.
  • I got training from my manager.
  • After a while, I started doing well and the money started rolling in. I was making really good money.
  • I was getting really good at it too. I should’ve stayed at that lawn care company at that time to continue my training and then at least moved to another industry later to see if I was really good at it or just lawn care.
  • Later I tried to transition back into the industry, but they did not want someone who had recent experience in mortgage, they wanted someone who had recent experience in …, so I didn’t get that job.
  • I talk about what 5 things I’ve learned up to this point about the number one ability needed.
  • There are a lot of free resources on youtube.
  • If it means picking up a book and read about … tactics and overcoming things go do that.
  • The point of this story is, if you want to be successful as an entrepreneur in business, you have to possess this ability.
  • It has to be more than money.
  • It has to be something you’re enthusiastic about.
  • It has to be something you’re passionate about.
  • You just have to go do it.
  • You have to take the knowledge you get and go do it.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION

  • A college professor of mine said, “If you want to be smart, you have to read.” I added to the part, “If you want to stay dumb, don’t read.” We’re all dumb at heart, that’s why we do dumb things. Reading is a smart thing to do and it makes you smart because you’re listening to smart people that wrote smart things. So read!
  • My book recommendation for the week is Guerrilla Marketing: Easy and Inexpensive Strategies for Making Big Profits From Your Small Business by Jay Conrad Levinson.
  • I read this book while Julie and I were on a cruise. I really enjoyed it.
  • There’s a lot of information in this book that I will be using in my business and a lot of good information to refer back to.
